SECURITY MEETING REPORT ON THE BREAKAGES ON MARA HOSTELS BY ROGUE CAMPAIGNERS.

                                     THE CROSSFIRE—THAT NEVER WAS!

Wednesday 22^nd of Feb 2012 was a day waited for with baited breath by a huge part of NUC students body. It’s the day the various contestants for the 3^rd SGC members were expected to meet and present their manifestos and policies to the subjects they were to lead if they emerged winners in the elections to be held 2 days later(Friday 24^th Feb). They have been campaigning for the better part of the week and it was time to prove to the audience their prowles’ in public speaking which is an attribute every leader should have.

Like in American politics, the main idea behind  a cross-fire is to have the candidates present manifestos and policies and debate them in a candid way before their voters and whoever seems to have the strongest points draws more voters. This is contrary to the hooliganism portrayed in NUC yesterday in the name of a cross-fire.

So eagerly was the event anticipated and waited for that by 2pm the hall was packed to capacity forcing  supporters to stay outside. The voters, some as high as kites sung in praise of their desired candidates and carried banners the size of highway billboard  adverts while some cursed and swore  like sailors that their candidates were the best.And that's where they missed the point. It was the candidates who were supposed to market themselves and not the supporters marketing them. They were supposed to be an audience of the debate between the candidates and contribute by nodding or clapping briefly, I know many of you think I’m crazy for suggesting this but that’s how it should be done and especially now that you are in the highest institute of learning on earth-university, you  should be civilized enough to know that. Period.

The ugliest part of the whole thing is when “missiles” were launched from each side in what saw Kennedy Ocholla,a former secretary general get hit by a stone as he tried to calm the warring sides. It’s by good luck that the former SG is either big enough or too hardy that the stone did not do much damage as intended. As the havoc was wrecked, the journalists continued covering the events and some suspecting that they may have been caught in camera doing the crime, they turned to trying to blame the journalists for unfair coverage as if they have a background in media training and when that failed too they tried to incite the crowd against the journalists especially yours truly of NESHCOURT who one of the them was seen trying show the others where he was. He was so frustrated that the people he was trying to incite against yours truly never acted for it seems they have better reasoning than him despite having been a former leader.

The contesters and their agents, the  elections committee team and security officers had to be called in quick closed door meeting with the administration to avert a looming crisis as the warring groups kept on forming groups and approaching each other in a daring way. The tension around was tangible and were it not for a few brave students who restrained each other from fighting it would have been a disaster. Probably I would be typing this from the comfort of my bedroom at home.

                                            CHAOS IN MARA HOSTEL AT NIGHT.

Enter night. After all the tension that happened during the day, a group of people who I will refer to as hooligans/goons/criminals stole their way to Mara hostels and ran havoc all over the place breaking doors and scaring the hell out of the poor young ladies. The guys had sticks and to make the matter worse some even had dangerous daggers dangling from their waists. They were chanting the names of two  of the contestants and so it is ALLEGED THAT PROBABLY, they might be their supporters. In a period of less than thirty minutes the 18 doors, one belonging to a janitors office and one belonging to a contestant,Chelimo Emmaculate Onkangi had been broken.

It is such a shame that most of the doors that got broken belonged to the ladies showing how naive and uncivilized people can get if they think that violence should be still be directed towards women. I condemn such an act in this 21^st century in the strongest possible terms as women are our mothers, some our sisters, our girlfriends, our aunts, our guardians and even our grandmas. How I wish they can recall the words of the former Maendeleo Ya Wanawake chairlady Zipporah Kittony..or worse still,let FIDA hear of it!

                         SECURITY MEETING TO DISCUSS THE CHAOS

It’s out of the above incidence that the Returning officer, the no-nonsense Prof.Oyaro called for a meeting between the candidates, their agents, security officers, the electoral commission and deans of students office to discuss on the way forward so as to avert any further crisis.

                                       THIS IS WHAT THOSE PRESENT SAID;

                                       PROF.OYARO

Prof.Oyaro is known to speak his mind irrespective of whose toes he will be stepping on without fear or favour.He is tough according to some and is even thought to be arrogant by some while he is also known to be among the most sociable lecturers in NUC.Due to his partisan stand in various matters, he is thought to be very fair as he is strict no-wonder he was elected as the returning officer.

He started by expressing his disappointment with the unfortunate event despite the yesterdays long meeting to discuss on matters to do with peace. “As the candidates, you deserve to take responsibility for what happened because it is criminal and deserves condemnation in the strongest terms possible. Do you know we can decide to send the whole lot of you, candidates at home? Do you think the most important reason as to why universities exists is to form SGC’s?’’Paused a furious Prof.Oyaro.

He continued, “As the candidates you should give us, ie the returning officer and the commissions enough reasons as to why the elections should not be postponed or all in all be banned from this campus until those in first year graduates in four years times? My members of the commission are saying that they don’t feel very safe working under  this condition and they are not even sure of their security that they will be safe after announcing results tomorrow.In fact,we are here to step down right now unless you assure us there will be peace. If there is any tension tomorrow, as the returning officer, I will pack and leave for I have the mandate and power  to refuse to announce the elections as well as to announce the winner. So starting with the two chairmen, tell us how we are going to replace the broken doors and the way forward?”Boomed the good old Prof While scratching  his great grey beard as his eyes beamed with rage and untold wisdom.

He was the first to speak. “It’s so unfortunate that such a sad thing happened barely hours after the peace meeting we had. I don’t  need to go about the bush, truth is known about whose supporters were those, I therefore need them to take responsibility of their supporters actions. I say this without fear of contradiction that it is James Seneiyas supporters who were into it. They were chanting his name. It’s not a secret. I  got a messages from trusted friends who warned me about the coming group of harmed   people and I even informed the campus security,im so disappointed by the security because on arriving there they met the hooligans and started chatting with them in their native language and nothing happened. I call upon those responsible to act peacefully and stop harassing fellow comrades. I call upon the administration to bring in police to protect the voters tomorrow in case of anybody wanting to misbehave. It’s so unfortunate.

                                                                        JAMES SENEIYA

Seneiya was the second to speak and this is what he had to say “I will start by saying that I cherish peace. What happened is very unfortunate and I was at Runda hostels speaking to some students  when I got a text message informing me of what was happening in Mara hostels. I rushed there  and managed to calm the situation down by talking to a few people who I found on the ground. I will offer myself to prevent such an event from happening again and I will continue to preach peace as a preventive measure.Meanwhile,I also would like to ask people not to inflate the whole issue and at the same time I ask that the police be brought not to protect some people but all the students.”Concluded James.

                                                                       KOECH ESIDOE

He was among the first to speak among the contesting sec-gens. “I’m so sorry for the events that happened last night. I was attending a prayer meeting (he is the YCS, Secretary) so I only learnt of the unfortunate issue later. I think if there was enough time for the leaders to talk to their candidates after the evening peace meeting, this would not have happened. I also partly blame the internal security for all the problems as  they only respond after problems have happened. This makes them act as first-aiders instead of security whose job is to detect and prevent crime.”Concluded the soft-spoken Koech

                                                                          OKWIRI ALEX

This is what the 3^rd year Communications and Public Relations class rep had to say “I was in Mara hostel preaching a message of peace when I got a text message from a trusted friend who warned me about a large group of armed people coming to campus. I got concerned about my security and on my way out, I met the said group walking inside the corridors chanting Semeiyas name. I later met Semeiya in the corridors and paused a question to him, He told me that he was speaking to them and they had calmed down. I have personally lost trust in the campus security and they are the ones I blame squarely for their failure to tame the situation.I'm also of the idea that the police should be brought in so as to bring in the necessary security during the elections.

                                                         JULIUS WESONGA

He was the first to speak among those in the finance docket. He had this to say “I will speak the truth without fear, I saw the group and they were chanting Semeiyas names. I think this is a plot by some people to scare away some voters so that thy leave for home and hence reduce the number of voters for some candidates. It is wrong and illegal”

                                                   DANIEL KIBELEKENYA

He was the second to speak in the finance docket and this is what he had to say “I’m  very sorry for what happened. I went to Mara and found a lot of noise. Met  Seneiya trying to calm the people and he told me how unfortunate it was that people were behaving that way. I personally think that the people who did that belong to another camp and were trying to use Seneiyas names so as to show how bad he is. Maybe the source of all this is the cross-fire”

                                                       MARIA AGWATA

She was among the first to speak in the health docket. She just asked for the police to be availed on the voting day to enhance security.

                                                              EMMACULATE MUTHEU

She said that she had no apologies to make for she had learnt about the issue during the meeting. She was not aware, She said that she squarely blamed the security and they should pay for the  broken doors.

                                                                       VALENTINE CHELIMO

She asked for the security issue to be addressed seriously and also asked for the students to be talked to on the need to enhance peace and live as brothers and sisters.

                                                                 CHELIMO EMMACULATE ONKANGI

She is the only first year lady candidate contesting for a seat in the SGC.This is what she had to say “I’m a resident of Mara hostels and I’m a victim of last night incidence for my door in second floor room X.I went ad met the people making the noise and I ascertained that they were from the two camps. They were not only from Seneiyas side as its being painted to look like. I also want to say that my two agents have been threaten in the past and I want the security to handle it

                                                 FRANCIS ODOYO

He was among the first to speak among those contesting for the VCs or the Vice chairs seat and he said that the security issue was the main issue of concern to the students as at that time and requested for police officers to be deployed.

                                             KENNEDY LANGAT

He was the second to speak and the “Tingisa gitole ya GANU” guy said that the only way forward was for the students to be preached about peace as peace love and unity was the only way.

                                        JOSEPH NJOROGE

He said that it is clearly stipulated in the constitution that whoever is engaged in destroying property should be reported to the police and so the police should be told of the whole thing and left to handle it, he  also said that it is unfair to ask the whole lot of candidates to be responsible of the mess created by the supporters of one candidate and hence let everybody carry their own cross.

I have deliberately left out the comments made by the agents for majority of them were saying something to support or echo what their candidate had said and also some were almost turning the session into a blame game session and were out to settle personal scores.

The dean of students the last to speak before Prof.Oyaro called in Mistry Mitheka who is vying for catering to pray followed by Fr .Dr.Rono for Prof Oyaro said that he had a feeling that the candidates and students body needed God more than they needed police. This is what dean of student had to say.

                               AMBROSE KOECH(DEAN OF STUDENTS)

“I’m very concerned about the well being of all our students and so I have liaised with the administration to avail very tight security tomorrow. We will have plain clothes policemen as well as uniformed police monitoring the whole process. We will also have a contingent of anti-riot police stationed somewhere within the compound who can respond in less than one minute in case they are called. But let us have peaceful elections and you are the determinants of peace for you can decide to be peaceful. We condemn the act that happened in Mara in the strongest terms possible and so let’s be disciplined. I urge all the students to k now that there is a circular from the HELB saying that any students involved in any indiscipline case, they be notified so as they withdraw their loans and support from them immediately. Thank you and let us observe peace.

The number of Chelimo Onkangis room has been labeled as X as a security and privacy concern to the occupants of the room.

The NESHCOURT MEDIA, wishes to advise its fans, who are also the supporters of the various candidates to avoid jeopardizing their candidates position and tinting their names by doing various crimes under influence of alcohol and then letting blame be upon the contestants for when the law takes its course, it will only deal with individuals. This does not however mean that you don’t cheer for your candidates of choice.

We wish all the candidates success and also hope all the supporters will maintain peace during this short period of politics before we go back to the main business that brought us to NUC, STUDIES:

Exactly less than 28hrs from  now NUC will have a new SGC and may we accept whoever wins as our leaders and don’t hate or hit your fellow comrade due to the results, incase of any problem, we have an efficient electoral team to guide us on what to do and so we should follow protocol.

Lastly,NESHCOURT accepts critics and praises from the fans in equal measure as long as it’s done in a genuine way but not as baseless threats. Praises drive us into doing even better while positive criticism works to build and strengthen our weak points.

DARING FRESHMEN STEAL THE SHOW FROM THE POLITICIANS AND A SCIENCE—TECH WORKSHOP.

Fridays are happy days in campuses across this country if not across the world. There is a unexplainable joy that engulfs the soul and excitement that stimulates the heart when one leaves the lecture halls satisfied that you have done your share of the lectures on a Friday. I was therefore in such a mood after  I cleared my Television and Cinema lecture at 10:16AM and was enjoying a cheerful banter with the youthly  lecturer when chants of “haki yetu!”And “comrades??Power!!!” filled the humid mid-morning Narok  atmosphere.

                                   The source and reason of the demonstration

From the onset of the semester, the freshmen have been spoiling for a demonstration. They have been complaining about a range of problems affecting them; from the uncompleted hostels where they are staying to the other general problems affecting other students such as the long queues’ in the students mess. They therefore seemed to have had enough when the electric power in their hostel was disconnected. In the new Mara hostels they had been enjoying the power from two double sockets in every room with each socket being able to serve each student. In Serengeti and Suswa hostels there is only one socket and hence students are forced to buy extensions so that they can share the power effectively. The four sockets used by the freshmen were withdrawn and only one left. The only one left was also disconnected and hence they had to go to other hostels to charge their electric applications such as computers and phones. On the second day, they couldn’t bear it and hence the demonstration.

What happened took my mind recalling  several ages  ago about various human rights activists who have walked the earth and left a mark to be admired and enjoyed by others. I mourned their souls and celebrated their achievements. In their various speeches; Malcom X and his speech on the black revolution, Che Guevara and his speech “the Great Revolutionary medicine”. John Kennedys speech “ask not” as well as the famous speech given by Mandela. The speech was titled “I’m prepared to die “and was concluded in the following words, “During my lifetime I have dedicated myself to this struggle of the African people. I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die”
Perhaps this is the same spirit that got into one Kirong Kibet,a freshman majoring in Political Science when he gave his now  almost famous speech to the principal and other fellow freshmen seated on the tarmac road which heads to the campus from the main gate.This man Kilong,!He bellows like an ancient Roman bull fighter and commands like an army general. “Wasee Wasee!!Tulieni”is all he needed say and the students would get calm like a horse bound and controlled with reins by a master rider. It was during that period of calm which he commanded from the fellow freshmen that he broke into the speech.
“Mr.professor  with all due respect we want you to know that we respect you by virtue of being our father, leader and principal. We honor your decisions and have profound  believe in your guidance, BUT we have a problem which we would like you to SOLVE RIGHT NOW. Our rights have been trampled on in this institution for so long and thus we want you to explain to us if we are students  of this institution or not. We have to share sockets and the risk of us losing our property is high because nobody is sure of anything  anymore.Sir,im  a poor son of a peasant from the slopes of Mt.Elgon and I fear I may lose my laptop in the confusion of moving from room to room charging it, where or when do you think I may ever acquire another laptop ever in life? It cost me a miracle to get that one” From where I was watching all the drama unfold, I saw Prof Serems’ face  trickle a bead of sweat. He looked at  Kilong with a eye of secret admiration and he knew the son of the peasant farmer from the slopes of the ever-politically hostile and volatile Mt.Elgon had him cornered the good professor  at last.
Prof. Serem tried his side of speech in his usual calm way but it did not seem to grab the attention of the charged and agitated comrades like that of the young Kilong. “Ladies and gentlemen, we are like a family. We have important visitors around who have  to behave well till they are gone. We want to have them help us in sciences and technology and if we disrupt the meeting we may not get the 10m donor funding. Can we wait till they are gone and then…..” “NOOOOOOO!visitors are not important than us” was the resounding answer in unison. And I knew as they say in Kiswahili, “kimeumana”
Then enter Robert Oduor with his traditional whistle. It’s hard to fathom how this computer scientist was in the forefront of the demo instead of being with fellow scientists in the hall. Some fellas were just born to speak for the weaker members of the society, it reminded me of the young  Che Guevara who was a doctor by profession but a human rights crusader by birth and hence his words when explaining his translation of careers. "Except for Haiti and Santo Domingo, I have visited, to some extent, all the other Latin American countries. Because of the circumstances in which I traveled, first as a student and later as a doctor, I came into close contact with poverty, hunger, and disease; with the inability to treat a child because of lack of money; with the stupefaction provoked by continual hunger and punishment, to the point that a father can accept the loss of a son as an unimportant accident, as occurs often in the downtrodden classes of our American homeland. And I began to realize that there were things that were almost as important to me than becoming a famous scientist or making a significant contribution to medical science: I wanted to help those people. And the only way was championing for their rights.” Probably, young Oduor, had the same thoughts when he put his whistle tied on a old thread and hung on his neck and blew it like his life depended on it. It reminded me of the Ikolomani MP Dr.Bonny Khalalwe and his love for traditional circumcision songs and the whistle blowing!!They calmed down for a tea brake and to let the meeting on science continue to the relieve  of those responsible over the meeting.
                               The media houses present.
The media are news vultures. Said one American politician.Onother President had very bad relations with the media people and he declared  “If one day I walked on top of the Potomac river, the headline that morning would be “President can’t swim!!”.The saying that media are vultures was displayed by the journalists who were covering the science workshop in the hall. By nature, I know science and mathematics are not our favorite subjects.  the journalists, we would rather be in the drama and cover dramatic events rather than long boring scientific explanations that we neither those explaining don’t understand fully. That’s why all the journalists left the hall and were soon at the centre of the scuffle within a minute and was recording the events excitedly before the camera-shy freshmen said cameras off. But they will never understand how yours truly captured the best of the shots and sound clips!!Hope the media people will be here to cover the coming elections for its going to be such a big day.
                                  The politicians and other students
When the freshmen took to the pavements around campus, the other students watched from the sidelines and admired  the oratory skills of the freshmen leaders with a tinge of jealousy and admiration.See?demos don’t work in NUC, a few brave souls screams themselves hoarse as others watch on the sidelines waiting for the ones demonstrating to be victimized and sent home or to meet the committee of disciplinians.But it has never happened hence the spirit of comradeship is almost normally dead. The constitution gives a right for peaceful demonstration and nobody should be victimized for it. The freshmen displayed a beautiful spirit of cooperation and comradeship. The elections are looming and so the politicians who were around lacked a quorum to express themselves. I saw some of them dying to address the freshmen but the chance never arose. I saw some wish that they had oratory skills like those of Kilong but they should know good public speakers are born but you can also train. There is a unit on public speaking offered in communication department of this campus and so before the cross-fire on Wednesday, if you doubt your public speaking, time you went down to Runda looking for the department have mentioned above.
                           Incoming elections
Those to vying in any seat or aspiring to vote can or should have learnt a few lessons from our younger brothers and sisters in their demonstration. We are one family of Narokians and so we should shun tribalism and vote in only good leaders who will have affairs of the students at heart and not that of the communities they are from or those of their friends, when Kilong shouted comrades power, he got a reply not from his clansmen  but from his fellow comrades irrespective of tribe. So far several contestants have given up and quit, some due to personal reasons and others due to pressure exerted on them at the school level because they couldn’t meet the academic threshold. Beautiful posters of contestants have emerged allover and I wish the candidates with the best plans and manifestos for us to win!!
See you at the ballot box and I leave you with this quote by an American Journalist and columnist, Franklin Pierce Adams(1881-1960) who said;
Elections are won by, men and women chiefly because most people vote against somebody rather than for somebody.!

MAJOR CONTESTANT PULLS OUT OF THE RACE TO S.G.C WITH JUST 12 DAYS TO GO TO ELECTIONS.

Yesterday a major contestant pulled out of the race to capture the secretary general’s seat in NUC.With just a few days to go to the official campaigning period, the man gunning up for the second most top seat in the SGC decided to quit even after he had his nomination papers signed by comrades who were determined to see him elected.

Speaking to the NESHCOURT exclusively last night, the young man was upbeat about apologizing to his supporters and said he had spent the better part of the day consulting with close friends on what to tell his supporters who were so mad with him. “I still believe that we have people who can lead us well”

On probing on what really made him quit the last minute, he just said “It was something to do with my family and its private” he didn’t explain further and so the matter was laid to rest at that point.The NESHCOURT had decided to reach him to clarify matters and clear the air on matters which made him step down. So we can confidently clarify that the candidate stepped down on his own without ant intimidation or persuasion from anyone

Meanwhile NESHCOURT wishes to encourage the students to remain calm and campaign in a mature way, to remember that at the end of the day we are all Kenyans hence brothers and sisters. Keep watching this space for more information on the unfolding political scene.

NAROK UNIVERSITY POLITICAL SCENE AS AT NOW.

Students  elections at the university level is just not another prefects electing ceremony in a high school. The elections are taken with so much seriousness as evidenced  by the University Of Nairobi’s  last elections where they tried to hire the services of the then Kenya Electoral Commission which was in charge of the 2007 elections which led to a dispute that saw Kenya go up in smoke. Later they sought the services of a South African professor who is an elections expert who oversaw the whole process. Some students sink even over a million bucks in the whole process and even though the elections are not as fiery as I here they were some years back when university students were the real opposition of the government and were the elites of the community and were seen as real scholars(they were not dancing to bendovers those days and universities were not found in every village, so I understand),but still they have their grip as most government politicians still have some influence on the elections as they try to capture the elusive youths vote as they deal with students leaders who are seen to have influence on the youths of even their home grounds.

In NUC, the situation is not much different right now as the election date is beckoning as the 2011/2012 group officially retired yesterday. The group was supposed to have retired last semester but the whole thing was affected by the double intake and by a letter written to the dean of students by Kennedy Langat a first year on behalf of the others petitioning the elections not to be conducted while they were not around .Well, they  now are around and the politics have never been this interesting

                                      A peek into the former SGC

The outgoing chairman was Kasaine Partoip who burst into the scene with a thud and captured the seat despite not having been known by many students by what was seen as massive support by his Maasai clansmen and the Luos with whom they had a coalition. Many  people also believe that his father being the mayor of Narok town had a hand in his winning by supporting him financially as it is estimated he spent quite a huge amount of money. He won narrowly to a strong  revolutionist Victor Ngari who many speculate up to now that he would have been the NUSO president had he come into an agreement of a coalition with his Kalenjin counterpart Gideon Khilel with whom they shared the remaining votes.

The Secretary general hotly contested by Albert Onyango  and Kimtai Thomas(who won)and  who many  view as the Gideon Mbuvi of Narok uni or what will you say of a leader who never misses any opportunity for fun may it be raving or just rapping if not mchongoano by the bon-fire!!This fella Kimtai!The budget of their expenditure as read yesterday by Thomas Kimtai had gone a notch above a cool 1.5million but that’s a story for another day.

                        The 2012/13 SGC aspirants

This is going to be a real hard time for anybody interested in any seat. Reasons being; the population has shot up and not only so but the entry of freshmen in the scene complicates the whole picture altogether. This is because these are not the ordinary freshmen, they have been around for one full semester on their own and hence have suffered together and have in the process identified their own leaders whom they can look up too. When tribal coalitions are being cooked by the tribal barons, they might be in for shock as the first years have declared that they are one community called first years and will not be divided on tribal lines.

They have identified their own leaders such as Kennedy Langat(who successfully petitioned the elections to be postponed )who is now going for the position of vice-chairman. There is a vocal sir Joseph who is going for accommodation and security (the first years claim that nobody can understand their accommodation problems better than one of them) and there is another  opinion leader by the name Ole Magana who is seen to have a huge stake in freshmen campaign strategies.

                                   Chairpersons’ seat

 The chairman is the most coveted seat as it includes several privileges and benefits packages. For example, last year, the chairman, the Sec-Gen and his Finance director flew  to Kigali Rwanda for a conference and that means big time allowances. So this time we have we have two main known contenders who wish to replace Kassaine and they are James Thuo,a bold 2^nd year taking a bachelors degree in business management and is the class representative. He is a holder of Certified Public Accountant title and is a Starehe Boys Alumni. He resides inside the campus hostel and hence seems to have a common base with majority of JAB students with whom they stay with. He has immense support from the first years as he has created a good rapport with them as he has been going to Maara hostels from the first day to talk with them. He has support from the GEMA community and any other community that will form a coalition with them as truth be told at the university people still vote along tribal lines, so sad.

The other known contester of the same position is a James Seneyia who hails from the Maasailand area hence seen to have great support from the Maa community.He is a holder of a diploma in human resource management and is currently taking a course in International Computer Driving Certificate(ICDL)as he awaits to clear with is diploma project and join degree programme. Many students who reside inside the campus have a feeling that electing a person who resides outside the campus might be unfair as he will not know their problems well. Some also have a feeling that somebody who is not a degree holder might be a letdown to them. The NESHCOURT makes it clear that as per the constitution of the insititution,anyody who is a student at the institution whether taking certificate, diploma or degree program can vie for any position but it is the students to decide.

                                                 SECRETARY GENERAL

Another hot seat which is seen to be most influential on campus matters. This is the legal seat and through the intervention of the sec gen a student who is supposed to be expelled for 1000 academic days can be saved. So far, the most outspoken member is Kenneth Odhiambo popularly known as Jobando who is seen as the one most likely to be the next SG as he is very popular. He is a fearless crusader of students rights and has been at the forefront of many demos demanding students rights. He is a second year student taking Bsc.Science(Mathematics)and from his record has support not only from his Luo counterparts but from across the other communities too for he is well known.

The other contester is a Isidore Koech Cherwon a 2^nd year BBM student who is also the organizing secretary  of the catholic students association in Narok uni.It is said that he will have immense support from Kalenjins and the catholic faithful.

                                                          Other seats

ENTERTAINMENT-This is seen as a celebrity seat as the person in charge is responsible to getting the campuserians to wear their dancing shoes. It was headed by Wesley Mosoti Mokua who has really tried as he organized for the Cultural  week festival as well as brought the Mambo Mseto East Africa courtesy of citizen  radio of Royal Media he however some complains that he had the habit of bringing in only DJ kalonje.Truth be told, this might be quite a big pair of shoes for anybody to fit in but we hope they will fit and fit perfectly well. This is the most hotly contested seat this time round maybe, we have Antony Opwora Sumba,a 2^nd  year majoring in Information Science and arguably the best male dancer in campus and lover of music. There is Kenneth Kibata, a close confidant and friend to the former entertainment director who is a 3^rd year taking Bsc.computer science.

CATERING-Seen as a lady’s docket and formerly held by Mourine Mbaka a staunch C.U official,now there seems to be interests by around 3 lady’s but the most well established is Mistry Loise Muleka who is the C.U praise and worship leader and is a second year taking a bachelors degree in special education.

SPORTS-Docket which was formerly held by Ernest Onditi and mostly reserved for sportsmen this time it is likely to be held by a vocal and students rights activist Brian Muga,a 2^nd year taking degree in public relations and communications who is a winger in the campus football team.For the first time,a lady has shown interest in the seat and she is a first year by the name Brenda taking Agric-Economics(At the time of going in print,NESHCOURT could not reach her for comment)         

ACCOMODATION AND SECURITY-Formerly held by Shed Kimtai AKA “defence”the seat is going to be a tag of war between the first years vocal and well known Joseph Njoroge AKA Sir Joseph and   Steve Biko a 3^rd year majoring in Statistics and computing. Sir Joseph will have immense support from the 1^st years and generally the GEMA community while Biko is likely to get support from the 3^rd years and sections of his 2^nd years.

HEALTH-also seen as a ladies docket and formerly held by Netty Kirongo who is a C.U official, the seat has only one contender who is Emmaculate Mutheu,fondly known as Emmah who is a 3^rd year majoring in BBM and is also a CU official where she holds various leadership positions .It would be difficult to floor her considering the support she stands from fellow third years and her many friends.

VICE CHAIRMAN-Formerly held by a quiet Rydon Ndeda,the seat seems to be having only one known contender; Kennedy Langat who is a 1^st year majoring in Bsc.computer science where he is also the class representative .He successfully petitioned for the election period  to wait until the 1^st years are there and so he seems to have a huge following  among freshmen and ladies as well as his Kalenjin community. Famous for his joke slogan “tingisha gitole ya KANU!”let’s wait and see what the Moi’s        grandson has up his sleeves this time round.

ASS.SEC-GEN-Formerly held by a largely absent fellow by name Allan Ntimama(He was also the only one absent from the retirement ceremony yesterday!)this seat is a silent seat that a lanky Kamba chap by name Peter Motiso want to take. A 3^rd year  student majoring in BBM and an aggressive campaigner of comrades rights,all we can do is wait and sees what will come of any other contender who may emerge.
