NUC STUDENTS GOVERNING COUNCIL LIKELY TO BE DISSOLVE ON 31st OF OCT 2011

On 25th of this month, the dean of students placed an urgent letter on the students notice board addressing the matter of students elections. The students election was not to take place as it is normally scheduled to because a first year student, a Kennedy Langat had put up a petition pointing out that the elections should not take place without the freshmen and ladies of 2011/2012 being there.Currently, they are all home for a long a holiday after a single semester at the campus, probably due to accommodation problems as it has never been it that  a public university breaks for a long holiday after a period of one semester.
So, the letter addressed to the dean of students has 135 signatures from fresher’s who feel that no elections should take place without their being in campus but  THE BIG QUESTION IS WHAT DOES THE CONSTITUTION OF NUC SAY ABOUT SUCH A SITUATION?, The dean of students Mr Ambrose Koech says that they are consulting with the university’s legal advisers on what course to take on the matter. Many feel that he should be able to communicate to the students the university’s position on the matter soonest possible to avoid unnecessary rumors from spreading around.
The NESH-COURT speaking exclusively  this afternoon to the current chairman of  NUC,Mr  Kassaine Partoip,in his characteristic soft but firm words  declared that as far as the SGC is concerned, they have not received any official communication from the office of the dean or the administration on matters concerning the elections. “As you can see, the letter on the notice board has no carbon copy addressed to SGC or the Chairman, therefore we are on the dark as you are on the matter “declared the chairman pointing to the fading memo  on Serengetis  notice board. He was with his secretary general Thomas Kimtai. He was categorical that the board will be dissolved on 31st of this month as far as he is concerned unless there is some official communication to him from administration.
On the issue of the SECOND YEARS GOING FOR LONG HOLIDAY, the chairman seemed to  differ with the secretary general  who said that  the second years will not go for long holiday, while the chairman said that as per his stand, the issue is subject to confirmation on a later date and he will keep everyone informed. Questioning the SEC GEN on the issue of whether the campus was ready to accommodate almost double the current population who already are competing for the scarce resources in term of library, the students mess, and the  lecture halls, he said that there was a plan to complete the new men’s hostel by  next year and complete the down wing of the academics complex being built but the big question was whether the contractor could allow the building to be occupied while the construction is going on because it is contrary to the laws of Kenya bearing in mind the accidents that have been happening through the  country on buildings collapsing. ON the mess he said he is not sure but he has information that it might be extended.
So, everyone in NUC is waiting with baited breath to see the unfolding drama and what is to be done but it is clear that there is very poor communication between the students leaders and the administration and thus there is general  misunderstanding  between the 3 parties including the students who are the employers of the later and have also chosen students leaders to act as their  bridge  but it seems they are being ignored or left out of decision makings in the campus. Speaking to various other students leaders, they expressed their displeasure with the admin due to poor communication while some students tried to accuse the students leaders of trying to  sabotage power and hold on up to next year because they we worried the second years might be going for long holidays hence elections would still not take place. But one student leader who is not named here for obvious reasons was overheard saying “we actually want to quit this job because it’s been long since we got our salaries “we however couldn’t immediately establish the truth of the statement.meanwhile, the students ask the current
SGC OFFICIALS TO CALL AMEETING AND INFORM EVERYONE ON THEIR STAND ON THE MATTERS ABOVE AND ALBERT ONYANGO TO DO IS WORK AS THE CUURENT CHIEF EDITOR OF THE COUNCIL,AND THAT IS TO INFORM THE STUDENTS AS HE IS THE MOUTH OF BOTH THE STUDENTS AND THE SGC.

A DAY OUT WITH ANGELS IN NAROK!!!!

Yesterday, as  the Man-u  fellas were being whipped to death(in their home ground), by the big boys from Man city, and thus the Man-u die hard disciples were in a crying period, including my one very good friend Joseh oluoch,I was playing “kati” and hide and seek as well as swinging. At the same time I was playing soccer made from polythene bags with the children at Narok children’s home. My consistent argument as always been that I am not a football fan because it beats logic to sit screaming on top of my lungs as I watch 22 grown men chasing inflated cow skin in the name of a ball, worse still when I have two metallic balls(pun unintended!!) with me all times. But why lie, I had this good feeling of Man-u being thrashed because they really caused my older brother Dennoh by humiliating his team Arsenal, sometimes back  and  so I knew he had a grudge against them not that I really cared about who gets the hell beaten out of them. So,away from the footballers noise, some friends and very close colleagues from journalism class(Leopold,Habiba, bernah,Ruth Agotch and her friend as well as lizzie,my beau,) went to cool away the afternoon with these beautiful kids>Joseh was supposed to be with us but he decided to don his Man-u Jersey and go cheer with them, nay, cry with them.
The children’s home is a short distance from campo so we trekked as we chatted about what young men and ladies chat about when they are together until we cam e to this gate to an imposing mansion next to the cool Narok river. If you think Narok is a semi-desert, think again! The place had so green grass and I’m not even mentioning the breeze wafting romantically from the narok river or the alluring music from exotic birds patched on the towering trees on the cleanest compound have set my eyes on this sem.We were welcomed by the kids as they knew some on our group who have been visiting them and mentoring them for quite a while and to them, greeting a stranger means bowing the head ang then you place your right hand on their bowed heads, later we get it from their “father”that it’s a show of respect, boy!i couldn’t help notice  the excitement in Bernabars at the prospect of being bowed before. We were informed that the “mother “was not around  and thus we ventured into their house which  doubles up as their tableroom, then the bedroom, for boys and girls, they are separate! They have learnt how to separate wolves from chicken early enough lest they have kids getting kids in a kid’s home!
Then came introduction time, we insisted the kids to mention whom or is it what they want to be when they clear school, although they like saying when they grew up, I would have loved to let them know that growing old  is a must but growing up is optional, but I thought it was a philosophy so deep for them to understand, I mean how would I have explained to them that we have so many campuserians who have a long way to go before they grow up though they have really grown old!!Or what do you say about a full chested or fully bearded over-grown babies’  in campus who stuff the suggestion boxes with sweet wrappers and smokies wrappings and all sort of waste and majority are the ones who leave taps running and oh yes I can’t forget that they are the lot that don’t  flash toilets after use!!fwak!!
There was something about the kids  that really challenged me, they seemed so much at home and at ease, it would have been impossible to imagine the kiddos have no parents or were got from the streets, see, this week marked exactly two months after I lost my darling mum to this ugly monster that is robbing from us our mothers, our sisters our aunts our girlfriends our grandmas; yes,the  ugly cancer, to be specific breast cancer, and so all along I was down but the spirit of these kids just brought me back, I in particular remember the words of Kawira who is in class seven and already the headgirl. She stood up and a radiant smile shinning her innocent but determined face and said “I am going to be a lecturer when I clear school  would love to lecture at Narok university college and be sure that your sons and daughters will find me there waiting to educate them.”I felt touched, for the first time in many days,I said a prayer to the old man upstairs that He bless the little angel get exactly that. Then there was this other class 6 girl who also without battling her eyelids said that she wanted to be the first female woman president of this nation, this time I whispered another short player to the old man upstairs again, to  bless the gal and more so to touch, the over-grown babies back at the university who stopped dreaming a long time ago, they are just sailing in as they wait to graduate and have their fathers bribe their way to top jobs, God help us!
We were so engrossed and time moved real first. Leopold presented clip-boards and pencils to the class 8’s who are to start their exams soon and we all gave them a story or two to motivate them and inspire them. They looked so mature and innocent and I prayed that a Fr.Kizito or a Michael Jackson doesn’t t emerge with promises of helping them but deep inside they are burning with intentions of satisfying unnatural canal urges. Cursed be such pedophiles that molest kids. And before I forget, boys will always be boys, the rascals wanted to be what all boys want to be when they grow up: a policeman, an army officer, a  pilot  and the rest but I was disappointed that none wanted to be what I wanted to be when I was young; a long distance driver of  a big trailer with over 30 wheels!!
Soon it was dusk and we had to leave, the young ones were so into some of us such that they almost cried when it came time to leave but we had to leave. I encourage my fellow comrades to take a weekend-off from  kamoja kamoja,mid-rock,mahogany,Taleq and oh yes,the library for those taking CPA and pay these kids a visit, you will make a difference in their lifes and you don’t even need a lot, they are okay  with sweets and biscuits or pens but most importantly your presence, you can even host your birthday party there and celebrate with them, so please, once you book a date with these angels, let me know and I will provide you with free photo-coverage  and company. Think about the difference you would make to these kids!!
